OCD ...... Of The Green Kind
Have you ever met someone who has OCD...of the Green Kind? I have to admit, I consider myself one.Maybe, I should discuss why I am so "Green OCD"? First of all, I am stubborn as can be, about buying Organic food. Even down to the point, that I would almost not eat an apple given to me, by another person.........Unless, I know that it is organic. I mean, think about all those pesticides put in apples! Don't you know, that apples are on the top ten list, for the highest amounts of pesticides?!!!! Uuuuggggghhhhh!!!! I also, read all ingredients in my shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions, and household cleansers............you name it! I've checked it! I read all the reports, put out by the Environmetal Working Group. I know what ingredient is toxic. And, I even know if they are GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). I cannot! I repeat! I cannot throw away paper, plastic or cans. In fact, I go behind my co-workers, and check their trash cans for recyclables. Every piece of sticky note is thrown in the recycling bin! I mean it! Every little piece!
Not only, do I recycle? I re-use. I re-use the bulk bin bags, for my purchases at the health food store. I hate to grab another bag for my produce. So, I re-use my old produce bags. It is nothing to see me whip out my bags..... from my cloth shopping bag,
and load up on produce. Ziploc bags are washed and dried...consistently! Even the tortilla bags! I re-use old clothes, and tear them up, to use as cleaning rags. I have a book called "RE/USES-2133 WAYS TO RECYCLE AND REUSE THE THINGS YOU ORDINARILY THROW AWAY". I have become entirely too excited over things I can make with boxes and cans!
If this was not bad enough? I compost everything that can be composted. I bring all my banana peels and apple cores back home, to compost. Tea and coffee grounds are composted too. My husband knows not to throw anything away. He puts everything on the counter for me to compost, or rightfully, put in the correct recycling spot.
Nothing goes unused, if I can help it!
At times, (and this is a really evil thought!) I wish that I did not care about the environment or toxins. I would love to be like most people that I know, and not really care. How easy would it be to throw things away, and just think of it, as someone else's problem? To eat food that has been genetically modified, and laced with horrible pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones? To not care about the chemicals that go into or on my body, that are carcinogenic? To just be oblivious to Mother Earth? This is not something I can do.
Recycling and Re-using, are not hard things to do. These are simple little tasks, to fit into your daily life. Pay attention to the chemicals that you use in everyday life. You would be surprised at how many toxic chemicals that you use daily? You don't have to exhibit behaviors of "Green OCD" to to do these things.
So, do you know someone with "OCD...of the Green Kind"?
